You want to use your attic, rather than just store everything there for it to never be seen again. It's time to tackle the clutter and get your room in order. Here are four steps to help you do just that.
Keep, Donate, Trash
Start with one section of your attic and work around it methodically. Have everything in three piles in the room for keeping, donating and trashing. The more you have in the donate and trash piles, the better it will be for storage. Bag everything for donating and trashing up, so the piles remain separate.
If you find you have a lot to trash rather than keep or donate items, you may want to hire a dumpster from a company like Ground Effects Hauling Inc. You can then take it all straight out when your pile starts to get too big.
File Paperwork You Need
Lazy cluttering is when you pile up paperwork and bills without really considering them. Some of these you will need to keep, so invest in a folder to file it all away. If you don't need it, then trash it. It will be worth shredding all important documents that you no longer need to keep to avoid the risk of identity fraud.
Organize Something for Memorable Items
Some items you'll keep for the sake of remembering events or people. This can become clutter in the attic, rather than having a place in your home for the memories. Either get a small box or put up a unit to display your memories. If you find that you have duplicates for people or events, you could consider donating or getting rid of them to help save some space. Find a balance for this type of stuff.
Get Everyone Involved
Decluttering the attic isn't just for you. You need to get everyone in the house involved, as there may be items that belong to each person. Set a time that works for all. If someone doesn't want to do it, make it clear they have a certain amount of time to deal with their clutter. The stuff that hasn't been moved, boxed up or trashed by then, will all just go anyway. This will soon make them move.
It's time to clean up the clutter in your attic. While some of it you'll want to keep, you may find a lot of it has accumulated just because of laziness. It's time to get rid of anything you don't need and use the attic for something productive.Share
