4 Smart Ways To Take Care Of Your Well This Summer

by Howard Barnett

If you have a well on your property, you want to make sure that you take good care of your well so that you are able to continue to enjoy fresh and clean water from your well.

1. Be Careful with Outdoor Materials

The first thing that you can do to take care of your well this summer is to be careful regarding the materials that you use outside around your well. You should not use fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides around your well, even if they are deemed safe to be used around animals or claim to be made of organic materials.

You do not want the substances from any fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides to sink into the ground, get into your groundwater, and contaminate your well. Although the possibility of this is low, you don't want to take any chances. Make sure that you keep the three types of materials listed above away from your well. You never want to take the risk that your well is contaminated.

2. Be Careful with Outdoor Activities

You also want to be careful with activities around your well. Do not dig around your well unless you have a clear understanding of where all the components and pipes that connect to your well are located. Before digging anywhere outside, you always want to make sure that you will not damage any water, electrical, or gas lines.

3. Clean the Filter

If your well has a filter, summer is a great time to clean the filter or replace the filter. You want to make sure that the water you are getting from your well has gone through a filtration process. You want to make sure that you are getting the cleanest well water possible. The best way to do that is by keeping the filter for your well clean.

This is also a job that a well inspector or plumber can do for you.

4. Schedule an Annual Inspection

Finally, make sure to schedule an annual inspection for your well. An annual inspection is a great way to make sure that everything is going well with your well. A water well inspector will be able to spot problems when they are small and stop them before they become larger issues. They will also be able to make sure that the water you are drinking is as clean as possible.

This summer, be careful with the materials and equipment that you use around your well. Check and clean the filter for your well and be sure to schedule an annual inspection so a professional can make sure that everything is working correctly with your well.
